At Santa Rosa Junior College’s Shone Farm, the fruits of student and faculty labor go far beyond the fields. A portion of the farm’s fresh, seasonal produce is delivered directly to SRJC’s campus food pantry to support food-insecure students, ensuring that all learners have access to nutritious food while pursuing their education. The produce also plays a role in the Culinary Arts program, where students gain hands-on experience preparing farm-to-table meals that are served to the public in the Burdo Culinary Arts Center restaurant on the Santa Rosa campus.
In addition to supporting academic programs and student well-being, Shone Farm produce is sold to local restaurants throughout Sonoma County, strengthening community ties and promoting sustainable, locally sourced food. SRJC classified professionals can also enjoy the harvest through the College’s CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program, receiving regular boxes of fresh produce grown by students and staff. These multiple pathways help fulfill Shone Farm’s mission of sustainability, education, and community connection, while providing students with real-world experience.
