Description: The Farm Sales Assistant position provides hands-on learning opportunities in agricultural business, marketing, sales, customer service, and food systems while supporting the operations of SRJC Shone Farm. Students gain real-world experience by helping promote farm products and events, managing customer communications, supporting online and in-person sales, and assisting with Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) and food access programs. The role also offers experience in event operations, distribution and logistics, bookkeeping, inventory management, and professional business software such as Zoho and Excel. Working alongside Shone Farm staff, students develop valuable skills in communication, organization, problem-solving, and sustainable agriculture while contributing to the Farm's educational mission and community outreach efforts. This position is designed to serve as an extension of the classroom, allowing students to apply academic knowledge in a professional agricultural enterprise and gain practical experience that supports future careers in agriculture, business, marketing, food systems, and related fields.
Job details:
- Must be 18 or older (for handling wine orders)
- $23.01/hr
- Up to 24 hours/ week
- Schedule can be flexible within Mon – Fri from 8 – 4:30.
- Availability for work on Fridays & Saturdays may be requested for events throughout the season.
- Student must be enrolled in 6 units per semester for Spring and Fall; 3 units for Summer term
Duties might include:
- Assisting with marketing materials including taking photos and crafting content for e-mails and social media
- Assisting at public events and could include cashiering, running a farm stand, tours, workshops, monitoring U-pick produce, working in wine tasting room, etc.
- Helping with in-person and online sales and customer service
- Working with staff to organize and deliver produce, olive oil, and possibly wine
- Loading items (up to 50 lbs) into or out of a delivery van and driving to various locations in the County
- Managing the CSA – promote, organize sign-ups, run and print weekly reports, create newsletter with recipes and produce tips, and distribute boxes to 4 campuses
- Coordinating and distributing food to students through the SRJC Basic Needs Program
- Using Zoho and xcel to record weekly invoices & monthly bookkeeping
- Direct organization of customer orders through email and phone
Interested candidates should:
- Have a clean driving record
- Be familiar and interested in taking photos and using social media to promote the farm and agrictulture program
- Have experience in customer service
- Be familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and be able to learn new programs easily
- Be organized and detail oriented
- Be flexible and adaptable
- Possess an interest in sustainable agriculture, local food, and produce
